Hamas Talks Gaza Ceasefire in Exchange for Hostage Release, Israel Denies

A representative of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas told the Jordanian newspaper Al-Gad (“Tomorrow”) that it was agreed to declare a cease-fire within the day which will last from four to five days in exchange for the release of 50 hostages. However, a source close to the government of Israel denied this information speaking to the Israeli news site Ynet – the digital version of the newspaper Gedot Aharonot -, stressing that no such agreement was made.

According to Al-Gad, the Hamas official said the deal will come into effect at 11:00 a.m. (local and Greek time) and also provides for the release of approximately 150 women and children held in Israeli prisons.

The German Agency, as relayed by the Athens Agency, notes that it was not able to independently confirm this information.
