The state of Alagoas has been hit hard by the rains in recent days – so far 56 municipalities are in an emergency situation and 6 people have died as a result of the storms. There are already more than 60,000 people between homeless and homeless.
In an interview with CNN Radio the coordinator of the Civil Defense of the state, Colonel Moisés Melo, stated that “the entire waterfront was damaged, the public, private, environmental and social damages were enormous, and incalculable for the moment.”
“We are making the state structure available for humanitarian assistance and. as soon as the weather improves, we will re-establish the municipalities so that they function at their fullest,” he said.
According to Colonel Moisés, “since last summer we prepared municipal teams, since we had the forecast that rains would be above average.”
“We work in prevention, with tools for monitoring rivers and lakes and contingency plans”, he added.
The Civil Defense coordinator also assured that he received support from the federal and state government, and that the municipalities put the planned contingency plans into effect.
The winter period is the rainiest for the Northeast and the forecast is that the rains will continue, intermittently, until the end of August.
