Haiti: Martin Moyes, widow of ousted president, wants to continue fighting her husband

Her first lady Haiti, Martin Moyes, who was wounded Wednesday by gunmen who assassinated Haitian President Jouvenel Moyes, called on the population, in a Twitter message, to continue the “battle” her husband was waging.

“I’m alive, but I lost my husband, Jovenel,” with whom he lived for 25 years, he added to the recording, the authenticity of which was confirmed to AFP by Haitian Culture and Communication Minister Pradel Enriquez.

“Until you opened and closed your eyes, the mercenaries entered my house and gassed my husband with bullets (…) without even giving him a chance to say a word,” describes Martin Moise in her message.

“My husband was killed because he was fighting” for roads, water, electricity and a constitutional referendum, “he added. “It is a battle he fought for us, we must continue it,” he said.

Now other mercenaries want to kill his ideas and dreams, says Martin Moyes in her message, calling for the president not to be allowed to die a second time.

The recording, which lasts 2 minutes and 20 seconds and is suddenly cut short at the end, was originally posted on Twitter by a government spokesman. It is not clear when it happened.

Jouvel Mois was shot at around his home around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday (8:00 a.m. Greek time) by a group of 28 men.(26 Colombians and two Americans of Haitian descent), 17 of whom were arrested by Haitian police and three were killed.
