Gynecologist is sentenced to 277 years in prison for raping 21 women in GO

Gynecologist Nicodemos Júnior Estanislau Morais was sentenced to 277 years, two months and 19 days in prison for the rape of 21 women in the city of Anápolis, in the interior of Goiás. He must still pay R$ 100,000 in compensation for moral damages for each victim.

Nicodemos was convicted in two cases by the head judge of the 2nd Criminal Court of Anápolis, Lígia Nunes de Paula. He was indicted for the crimes of rape of vulnerable, sexual violation through fraud and sexual harassment.

“Medicine exists to heal people, not to hurt them further. This indispensable profession, although fundamental for the healthy maintenance of the community, does not overlap with rights of a constitutional nature and protected by criminal law, such as, among others, the right to freedom and sexual dignity”, observes the magistrate in her decision.

Lígia Nunes de Paula also points out that the technical witnesses said it was important to ask one of Nicodemos’ patients about her complaints. The doctor, in turn, revealed that he would have created a “more complete anamnesis technique”, where he asked and examined patients in greater detail.

“What may at first appear to be zeal turns out to be a modus operandi to mask the lascivious intention disguised as a medical technique. Just as he did in the victims’ consultations (as they reported in court), throughout his judicial interrogation, the defendant tried to impress the listeners by making use of technical names and medical possibilities”, adds the judge.

The gynecologist was arrested preventively in October 2021, during Operation Sex Fraud, carried out by the Civil Police of Goiás.
