Guedes dismisses IMF from Brazil; UK records record for Covid cases

After criticizing the IMF’s (International Monetary Fund) growth forecasts for Brazil, the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, this week determined the closing of the institution’s office in Brasília. The Fund confirmed its departure from the country at the end of June, when the mandate of the current IMF representative in Brazil, Joana Pereira, ends.

In this episode of CNN Mundo, Lourival Sant’Anna presents an analysis of the outcome of Guedes’ complaints against the IMF and a balance of the week’s highlights in international news. One of the themes is the information that the United Kingdom has registered the first death in the world from the Ômicron variant of the coronavirus, and the number of Covid-19 cases in the country has reached a new record.

THE CNN World This week also discusses the end of China’s embargo on Brazilian meat, after more than 100 days, and the reactions to a report in The New York Times that indicates the possibility that the president of Haiti, Jovenel Moise, has been assassinated in July because of the fight against drug trafficking.
