The final film in the James Gunn-directed trilogy of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) hits theaters this Thursday (4). It will be the last time viewers will see the Guardians of the Galaxy as they know it.
In the third film from the beloved group of misfits, they seek to settle down in Knowhere. But it’s not long before their lives are upended by echoes of Rocket aka Rocky’s turbulent past.
While Peter Quill still recovers from the loss of Gamora, he assembles his team on a perilous task to save their friend – a mission that, if not completed, from the with success, it could very well lead to the end of Guardians of the Galaxy.
The feature is part of phase five of the MCU, as well as “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” which debuted in February.
In addition to the trilogy, guardians have appeared in other Marvel films such as “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018), “Avengers: Endgame” (2019) and “Thor: Love and Thunder” (2022).
The production stars Chris Pratt Zoë Saldaña, dave batista , Kauren Gillan , Pom Klementieff It is Sean Gunn. In addition to Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel who provide voices to the group’s iconic characters.
The film also features new characters that will be played by Chukwudi Iwuji which gives life to the villainous High Evolutionary; Will Poulter , which features Adam Warlock from the comics for the first time in the MCU; It is Maria Bakalova who voices Cosmo, the space dog who was sent into space by the Soviets and ended up with the Collector.
The director Jamen Gunn he pointed out that the production has fun moments, which is the hallmark of the trilogy, but that this film is more “emotional” than the other two. The character is Rocket, with whom the filmmaker identifies most.
“This is a little animal that was taken and made into something it shouldn’t be and felt completely excluded and alienated from all other life in the galaxy. That loneliness is at the core of the films,” says Gunn.
“Funny because people think of them as lighthearted movies and fun movies, but all that drives it is the emotional core of Rocket and the other characters who are all outsiders, who don’t really feel like they belong. But the cracks start to open up a little bit between some of the characters, so they start to love each other.”
Saldaña, who brings Gamora to life, said the new film is a roller coaster of sensations.”You’re going to be on the funny rollercoaster, then you’re going to be on the emotional rollercoaster, then you’re going to be on the emotional rollercoaster, then you’re going to be on the action again.”
“It’s crazy, extraordinary, pushes the boundaries, fun and funny. It focuses on uniqueness and heart and compassion and imagination and music and humor and vibrant colors and beautiful imagery and ingenious alternate universes. It’s the final installment of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and it wraps it up in a way that only James could,” said Chris Pratt, who plays Peter Quill.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the main aggregator of film and TV reviews, the film has an 80% approval rating from specialized critics.
