The Federal Police launched an operation with the aim of combating a criminal group involved in the illegal extraction and exploitation of minerals along the Jutaí River, located in the interior of the state of Amazonas. Operation Rios de Ouro took place last Wednesday (18).
According to the PF, four strategic locations were identified during the investigations in the city of Porto Velho, in Rondônia, and in Itaituba, in Pará. In these locations, four search and seizure warrants were served.
The investigation began with a report received by the National Mining Agency. The document stated that a mining cooperative had submitted an annual mining report for the period 2020-2022 that had expired. As a result, mining operations without permission were discovered.
During the investigations, it was discovered that those responsible for the cooperative were entering into partnership contracts with mining dredgers to extract gold, using non-existent mining permits.
With the search and seizure, the agents aim to obtain data that proves the criminal practice of illegal extraction of minerals and usurpation of Union assets, in addition to deepening the investigation to find out where the minerals were taken.
