One of the great advantages of eating at home is that, first-hand, you supervise that everything is well washed and in perfect condition, so you can eat in complete safety. Unfortunately, when eating out, this responsibility is delegated to other people, so the only thing left is to trust that they follow a good sanitary process.
As some say, “eyes that do not see, heart that does not feel”, and it is true, who knows how many things of poor quality we have eaten without realizing it, because each restaurant or establishment has its tricks to preserve food or reduce minimum the loss they may have.
Such is the case of a bakery belonging to the Unimarc supermarket chain in Chile. In recent days, a video of a deplorable situation in the place was shared. In this one you can see how a baker is kneading, but thinking that no one is watching him, just before forming the loaves, he licks the dough.
The bad news: who knows how long that baker has had this dirty practice. The good news: the authorities were alerted and have already done something about it.
The moment was captured on video by a man who recounted the events. He says that he decided to go to Unimarc with his little son to buy bread, who realized the situation because, being shorter, he could see well, so he told his father what he was going. However, the man did not give it much importance because he thought that perhaps the boy had seen wrong, but he continued to insist until his father decided to observe the baker to verify that his son was right.
I couldn’t record it from the front, but I got from behind and managed to record a little bit. He saw me, addressing myself, and I confronted him, indicating that I would report him. I asked to speak with a supervisor and demanded that he eliminate the production of bread, to which he replied that I should send him the video so that he could do something. I sent him the video, but he didn’t do anything.
@pdgnoticiaslivechile An hour ago we went with my son to donate to the Banco de Chile in Parque Brasil and we went to buy bread at Unimarc. My son, who is shorter, realizes that the baker was passing his tongue to the dough, I didn’t bother him, thinking that he misinterpreted some movement of the baker. My son kept urging for several minutes while I weighed the bread, and he tells me that when people looked at him he would stop. At his insistence I watched surreptitiously and I was right. I couldn’t record him from the front, but I went from behind and managed to record a little and he saw me addressing myself and I confronted him, pointing out that he would report him. I asked to speak with a supervisor and demanded that he eliminate the production of bread, to which he replied that I should send him the video so that he could do something. I sent him the video, but he didn’t do anything. Then I left out of fear since he was with my son and the baker may take unexpected action because of my complaint.
With those words, the man shared his testimony, adding that after that he preferred to leave for fear that the baker could retaliate against him or his little son. This is the video in question, shared on TikTok by the account @pdgnoticiaslivechile.
The man who took the video sent his testimony to the mayor of the commune, Jonathan Velásquez, and the latter reported the situation to the Regional Ministerial Secretary of Health because, for obvious reasons, it goes against health protocols.
Finally, the investigation was carried out and it was possible to verify the lack of sanitary measures, for which the operations of the bakery were prohibited. In addition, s plans to conduct further investigation.
Hopefully this issue can be regularized and employees are trained on ethical principles, but not only that, but also follow-up and monitoring that the standards are being met.
