The Covid-19 pandemic made it impossible for thousands of people to say goodbye to their loved ones in rituals that work as a process of mourning and farewell, such as wakes. For psychoanalyst and doctor from USP Vera Iaconelli, because of this, the experience of mourning during the pandemic was more difficult.
“Freud will talk about the work of mourning, which is a psychic work that we need to do to elaborate on this loss that will always be there, which will help us to live better and better with the loss, and throughout life , stay with the celebration of that person’s life in place. Now these processes are starting to come back, the psychic work of grief, so this is very important. Today is a day for us to think about death and life and be able to share in the loss of more than 600 thousand people”, said Iacomelli.
