Greta Gerwig was chosen to preside over the jury for the 77th edition of the Cannes Festival, which takes place between May 14 and 25, 2024.
“I love movies – I love making them, I love going to see them, I love talking about them. As a cinephile, Cannes has always been the pinnacle of what can be the universal language of cinema. Being in a place of vulnerability, in a dark cinema full of strangers, watching a new film is my favorite place to be”, said the director, according to a statement released by the event.
“I am surprised, thrilled and honored to serve as President of the Cannes Film Festival Jury. I can’t wait to see what journeys are in store for all of us!”, he concluded.
Greta began her film career as an actress, starring in plots such as “Frances Ha” It is “Women of the 20th Century” but it was behind the cameras that she gained prominence.
She made her directorial debut with “Lady Bird: Time to Fly” a critically acclaimed film that earned him two Oscar nominations – for Best Screenplay and Best Direction.
