Six new private-use port terminals were authorized to be built in the first half of this year.

Altogether, investments in the order of BRL 10.3 billion according to data from DataPort, ATP database (Association of Private Port Terminals).

In the Southeast region, which represents most of the investments, two terminals will be built in Santos: the Port Logistics Terminal (TPL) and the Terminal da Empresa Brasileira de Terminais e Armazéns Gerais (EBT).

The two terminals will bring more than BRL 6 billion in investments, of which BRL 2,827 billion will be TPL and BRL 3,657 will be EBT. They will be used for handling solid bulk, liquid bulk and other types of cargo.

In relation to the Logistics Port Terminal, the movement of solid bulk for soybeans, soybean meal and corn, and liquid bulk containing fuels derived from petroleum and biofuels stands out.

Loads of cellulose and fertilizers will also be handled, with an estimated 3 million of each transported per year.

The Terminal of Empresa Brasileira de Terminais e Armazéns Gerais will handle fuels, solvents, lubricants, acids, alkalis and other liquid products.

It will also be used to transport paper, plywood, steel products and non-ferrous metals.

To CNN Brasil Business ATP president Murillo Barbosa said that investments in the private port sector are not only important for transport logistics, but for the entire national economy.

“The ceremony organized by the Ministry of Infrastructure for the signing of 6 adhesion contracts only reaffirms what the port sector has experienced in recent years: high investments in the private sector with a very large trend of projects in the North Region to meet, including, the grain handling”, said the president of the Association.

In the North, the construction of three terminals was authorized: the Louis Dreyfus Company Malate Terminal and the Atem’s Terminal in Santarém, Pará, and the Lajes Logística Terminal in Manaus, Amazonas.

Together, the three add up to R$ 680 million in investments. They will be destined to the movement of solid bulk, liquid and containers.

Finally, the construction of the Porto Guará terminal in Paranaguá (PR) was also authorized, with an estimated investment of R$ 3.16 billion. It will be used for the same load purpose as the others.

“When we talk about private investments, we talk about credible investments, which will add new handling capabilities to the Brazilian port inventory, as they are totally new projects, starting from scratch,” said Murillo Barbosa.

With the new authorizations, the number of private terminals in Brazil totaled 259, with 210 terminals for private use (TUPs), 45 Cargo Transshipment Stations (ETC) and 4 Tourism facilities (IPTur).

Since the Law on Ports (12,815/2013), private terminals added up to an investment portfolio of R$55.7 billion.

The authorization of 17 new terminals and expansions are still under analysis. It is estimated that the investment in these terminals will be R$ 19.26 billion.
