Government announces reduction of up to 25% of IPI

The federal government published this Friday (25) a decree that amends the IPI (Tax on Industrialized Products) table, as anticipated by the CNN Brazil. According to the decree, the rate can be reduced by up to 25%.

There are different tax reduction ranges depending on the products.

The calculation made by the Ministry of Economy is that the measure should have a fiscal impact of around R$ 20 billion.

Of the total amount, half should be paid by the federal government and the other half by state administrations. The tax is levied on industrial activity and is an attempt by the federal government to stimulate the economy.

According to CNN Brasil, the cut should not be valid for sectors such as cigarettes and alcohol.

On Tuesday (22), the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, spoke about the reduction of the IPI as one of the initiatives that should be presented by the government until the end of 2022 as a stimulus for economic growth. Another measure mentioned by Guedes is the release of resources from the FGTS (Fundo de Garantia por Tempo de Serviço).
