Government announces exclusive credit line for truck drivers

Caixa Econômica Federal and the federal government announced this Friday (4) an exclusive line of credit for the anticipation of payment of freight costs, aimed at truck drivers.

The credit will anticipate freight costs to truck drivers by 120 days, with an interest rate starting at 1.99% per month. The amount will be deposited in the account of each professional.

“The truck driver who received R$ 1,000 was given R$ 800, now he has R$ 998”, says Adolfo Sachsida, head of the special advisory for strategic affairs at the Ministry of Economy, at the program’s announcement ceremony.

The ceremony was also attended by President Jair Bolsonaro, the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, the Minister of Infrastructure, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, and the president of Caixa, Pedro Guimarães.

“The bank (Caixa) is thinking about the people who operate the transport, the truck drivers, the weakest link.
Organizing a receivables anticipation system in which transport companies take the credit, but the beneficiary is the truck driver, who is at the end of the line. That means freedom. It is freeing the truck driver from the freight letter, from the married credit operations that subtract so much income”, said Tarcísio.

According to him, with the line, the truck driver will have the opportunity to have access to working capital and freight anticipation “with a very small fee”. “This is interesting in terms of combating tax evasion in the transport system”.

Guedes made a brief speech during the event, in which he called Bolsonaro’s economic team a “true dream team”, in allusion to the name received by the team of former president Michel Temer.

How it works:

• Cargo transport companies that hire a term freight service can ask the bank to advance their payment directly to the autonomous carrier (truck driver), who receives the amount in cash by crediting a Caixa account, including Digital Social Savings, in the CAIXA has
• The credit will anticipate freight costs for truck drivers by 120 days, with an interest rate starting at 1.99% per month for bank customers
• Freights registered in the Treasury Department system can be anticipated from the issuance of the Electronic Tax Manifesto (MDF-e), a document widely used by companies in the sector, which stores information about the cargo and those responsible for transport.
• The loan is repaid in a single installment, due on the same date stipulated by the carrier in the MDF-e for the payment of freight
• To contract the CAIXA Transporte Giro, cargo transport companies must request the authorization of the limit at any Caixa branch, through a credit assessment
• After the release of the limit, the operation of credit is performed digitally by the Financial Manager of the bank

Amid the soaring price of diesel, President Bolsonaro has been promising to lighten the weight of fuel in the pockets of truck drivers since last year, when the category promised a stoppage. Bolsonaro even said that he would announce monthly aid to workers in the sector, which did not please the financial market, which was concerned about the country’s fiscal health.
