Golden Globes 2025: Fernanda Torres makes history and wins Best Actress award

Fernanda Torres 59, made history in Golden Globe . This Sunday (5), the interpreter of Eunice Paiva in “I’m Still Here” became the first Brazilian to win the award for Best Actress in a Drama Film .

Torres beat strong competitors, such as Angelina Jolie by “Maria Callas” and Nicole Kidman by “Babygirl“. With the victory, the Brazilian increases her chances of competing in the Best Actress category at the 2025 Oscars.

The 82nd edition of the event, which opens the 2025 awards season, started at 10pm, with simultaneous broadcast on the TNT channel, on pay television, and via streaming, on Max.

Expectations for this year’s awards season are even greater, with the presence of Brazilians competing in the main categories. The national film “I’m Still Here” secured a nomination in the category of Best Film in a Non-English Language, as did the film’s protagonist, Fernanda Torres, in the category of Best Actress in a Drama Film.

According to Variety, a publication specializing in cinema, Torres was one of the favorites for the award.

The publication highlights that Fernanda Torres “is the only actress among the nominees whose film was also recognized in another category, competing for Best Film in a Non-English Language”. However, “despite the strong support that Fernanda Torres receives from voters, Nicole Kidman (“Babygirl”) and Angelina Jolie (“Maria Callas”) continue to be strong competitors in the dispute.”
