A plane in the process of landing at Congonhas Airport, in the city of São Paulo, had to go around on Monday morning (18), shortly before 10 am.
The flight resumption procedure was motivated by the proximity to another aircraft that was about to take off, in order to avoid a collision or other accident.
The aircraft that launched was from Gol flight 1209 and was arriving from Porto Alegre. While the other was the LA3610, from Latam, bound for São José do Rio Preto, in the interior of São Paulo.
This type of procedure is taken by aviation safety, to avoid possible accidents and is not uncommon.
In a statement, Gol stated that the aircraft “made a go-around during its landing process in São Paulo due to the presence of an aircraft from a similar company on the runway”.
“The entire procedure followed the strictest security protocols.” According to the company, the plane resumed position and landed safely at 10:05 am, about 10 minutes after the go-around.
“The company reinforces that a go-around is the act of discontinuing an approach procedure. It occurs when, after analysis, the captain verifies that the landing cannot continue to comply with all safety requirements or as determined by the airport’s control tower. The go-around is a normal and safe maneuver that allows pilots to start a new approach under more favorable conditions, as in this case,” he stressed.
Latam replied, also in a note, that “it did not register any irregularities in its operation on flight LA3610 (São Paulo-Congonhas/São José do Rio Preto) and on any other flight this Monday (18)”.
“The company recommends that the question about the go-around procedure be made to the operator of the flight that made this decision”, he concluded.
