The defense of the man identified by the police as responsible for installing a hidden camera in the bathroom of a family home in Goiás says he will await the results of the equipment examination before making a statement.
Businessman Francismar Fernandes da Silva, 36 years old, was preventively arrested last week. He owns a house in Anápolis (GO), about 60 km from Goiânia, which was rented to a family of five – including children and teenagers.
In February, a 16-year-old girl who lived at the property located a hidden camera installed in the socket in one of the bathrooms. The equipment was pointed at the box where the family was taking a shower. The police were called and found that it was a video camera.
The delegate responsible for the investigations, Aline Lopes, from the Anápolis Child and Adolescent Protection Police Station (DPCA), stated that, after Francismar's arrest, electronic devices belonging to him, such as cell phones and computers, were seized.
These materials will undergo forensic examination so that the police can discover what was done with the images captured. If it is proven that the videos and photos were shared, the businessman could be charged with more crimes.
The law firm Almeida, Postigo e Silva, which represents Francismar in the case, stated, in a note, that it awaits the conclusion of the examination and the “availability of all investigation data before making any public statement”.
“Therefore, to avoid hasty and incomplete analyses, we ask for the understanding of everyone involved and we guarantee that, as soon as all the necessary elements are available, we will make an official statement detailing our position and the next steps to be followed”, he adds.
The businessman's defense also says that it considers that “the disclosure of incomplete or misleading information may harm due legal process and unduly influence public opinion”.
Remember the case
At the beginning of this year, the family moved to the rented property – owned by Francismar. According to investigations, approximately four days after moving in, the owner asked to go to the location, claiming that he would need to check the home's security cameras.
On that day, says the delegate, Francismar said he would need to use the bathroom. The resident offered him a bathroom in an external part of the property. “But he insisted, he said: 'No, it could be this bathroom right here'. This bathroom was inside the house, as he knew that the residents would use that bathroom to take a shower.”
Fracismar would have remained in the bathroom for around ten minutes. “We believe that it was at this opportunity, after the family was already living in that residence, that he installed this camera”, adds Aline.
Around 15 days later, the camera was located by the 16-year-old teenager, who, on that occasion, had not gone to school because she felt unwell. In the morning, she was woken up by the dog, which was barking towards the bathroom. The girl opened the door and caught Francismar inside.
When asked about the reason for his presence, he reportedly expressed nervousness. “He gave some excuse, said that the system had crashed, and then ran away very nervous,” said the delegate on the case.
As soon as Francismar left the place, the girl noticed that there was something different in the socket. Later, when her parents saw the shot, they discovered that there was a camera positioned towards the shower stall where the family was taking a shower. The family contacted the police who, after examination, confirmed that it was filming equipment.
“The camera transmitted the images captured there in real time. There was also a memory card. On that memory card there were several records throughout the days of the people who lived in that house taking a shower and of Francismar himself adjusting the camera angle.”
“The Civil Police believe that he broke into the residence that day, believing that there was no one at home, because he knew the family's routine, and that he had gone there to adjust the angle of this camera and be able to capture the images even better”, complements the delegate.
