Germany: SPD’s poll slump continues

The Social Democratic Party (SPD) continues its poll decline, while the Christian Union (CDU/CSU) strengthens its lead and the Greens consolidate as the second force.

In the latest poll by the Forsa Institute on behalf of RTL and ntv TV stations, CDU/CSU lead with 27% (+1), followed by the Greens unchanged with 24%, while the SPD is limited to 18% (-1). The Alternative for Germany (AfD) remains at 10% and in fourth place, the Liberal Party (FDP) reaches 7% (+1) and the Left is still on the threshold of the electoral measure with 5%.

In the question of the direct choice of chancellor between Olaf Solz (SPD), current vice chancellor and economy minister Robert Habeck (Greens) and CDU leader Friedrich Merz, Mr Habeck leads with 28% (+2) followed by Soltz with 23% (-2) and Mr. Mertz with 18% (+1).

When it comes to trust in the political abilities of each party, the Greens lead with 20%, while the SPD trusts 10% and the Union 9%. 53%, however, state that they do not consider any party capable of managing Germany’s current problems.
