Germany: Limits Pfizer Vaccination to Increase Moderna Expiring

The German government will limit the use of the BioNTech / Pfizer vaccine against Covid-19, giving Moderna the equivalent formulation, as the latter’s stocks are approaching their expiration date.

According to a letter from Federal Undersecretary of State Thomas Stephen to the states, cited by the RND Network, in the near future and in view of the booster vaccinations, the federation will deliver the vaccines and family doctors to use more Moderna vaccines are in danger of being discarded as their expiration date approaches in the middle of the first quarter of 2022. To date, BioNTech / Pfizer vaccines account for 90% of orders in Germany.

From next week, private clinics will be able to receive up to 30 doses of BioNTech / Pfizer vaccine per week, while vaccination centers will receive 1020 doses. On the contrary, there will be no restriction on orders from Moderna.

The development provoked reactions, with the Greens’ health spokeswoman Maria Klein-Smink telling RND that “Mr Span had promised everyone a boost and now it turns out that he deliberately raised false expectations and the result will be no those who wish to have their booster vaccination can be vaccinated quickly. ”
