Chaos in shops, supermarkets and gas stations across the country has caused damage to the credit and bank card support system for a few hours now.
According to the German News Agency dpa, this is a failure of the H5000 system of the American company Verifone and according to the technology magazine “Heise”, for a total system failure. Similar problems, mainly in the transmission of card details to banks, were reported by the German software company Huth, noting that it is not able to estimate when the system will be restored.
Both companies advise terminal operators not to disconnect the devices and not to attempt to restart, as this further complicates their remote repair.
Waiting queues are forming at the cash registers of the commercial stores, as the traffic was increased due to tomorrow’s Ascension holiday.
However, transactions at banks’ ATMs are normal.
