The current head of Greenpeace, Jennifer Morgan, is set to be named Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Representative for International Climate Policy by Foreign Minister Alena Berbock, according to Der Spiegel.
According to the magazine, the appointment of the American activist is expected to be approved by tomorrow’s cabinet, however she will become a deputy minister later, as she needs to obtain German citizenship first. The request has been submitted as “urgent”, the magazine reports, which explains that Mrs. Berbok has known Ms. Morgan for years, from international conferences on the environment. The American already lives in Berlin and has studied political science and German literature, while she has previously been an advisor to the German government on environmental issues.
