Prosecutors from Berlin accused on Wednesday (16) a doctor of 15 homicides. The professional is suspected, 40 years of administering lethal amounts of drugs to palliative patients who were under their care.
Prosecutors also seek a lifetime professional prohibition for the accused, detained since August 2024, and who worked in several German states.
The doctor, who did not have his name officially disclosed because of German privacy laws, did not admit the accusations.
Initially, he was suspected of being involved in four deaths last year, who tried to cover up setting fire to the victims’ apartments, the prosecutors said.
However, investigations in progress revealed more suspicious deaths, dating back to 2021, and this number can still increase.
An research team specifically created for the case is evaluating patient records and more exhumations are planned.
The doctor is accused of managing an anesthetic and then a muscle relaxant to palliative patients who were not at the final stage of the death process and without their knowledge or consent, the promoters said.
