German far-right tells Scholz to “pack his bags” after victory

The co-leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party told Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Monday (2) to “pack his bags” after the losses of the parties in her coalition government in two state elections.

Alice Weidel told reporters in Berlin that voters wanted “a different government” and that her party was “preparing for that.”

Weidel also said young voters looking for a “perspective in our country” largely supported the AfD in Sunday’s elections in the eastern states of Thuringia and Saxony.

“Our school classes are being flooded with children and young people from foreign cultures who come from archaic backgrounds, marked by Muslim beliefs, are ignorant and all they talk about is nonsense,” Weidel said.

The AfD became the first far-right party to win a state legislative election in Germany since World War II with its result in the weekend vote in Thuringia.

It came in second place, just behind the conservatives in Saxony, according to projections released on Sunday.
