According to the Military Police, agents of the 6th BPM (Tijuca) were fired after reports of firearm shots on Avenida Rei Pelé, near gate 2 of the stadium.
The victim, identified as Taktakishviki Paata, was walking with his partner by the way when a criminal tried to steal his woman’s bag. According to preliminary information, the tourist responded to the attempted robbery and went into a body fight with the robber. During the fight, Paata was shot twice in the leg.
He was rescued by the police and taken to the Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital in the city center. According to the unit’s management, the patient’s health is stable and he is not in danger of dying. The couple currently lives in New York, in the United States, and was visiting Rio.
The author of the shots managed to escape before the arrival of the agents and, so far, was not found. The Military Police reported that policing was reinforced in the region after the incident.
