Tragic information has been made public concerning the death of the two -time Oscar winner Gene Hackman and his wife, the classic pianist Betsy Arakawa. According to a report obtained by the CNN, several rodent rodents and rodents of rodents were found scattered in their 3.8 million dollar estate a Santa fewhere both were found lifeless on February 26th.
The report was drawn up by Department of Public Health of New Mexico After an environmental inspection carried out on March 5, a week after the discovery of the bodies of Hackman and Arakawa. The documents indicate that rodents’ excrements were found in three independent garages of the property, as well as in two cases and three sheds.
According to the CNN, in the three garages of the property there were also a living roller, a dead rodent and a rodent nest. However, the main home of the couple was clean and showed no signs of rodents’ activities. The latter had instead had access to eight other buildings of the property. Investigators found active traps in external buildings and spoken rodents also in two vehicles.
Betsy Arakawa, 65, would have died on February 12, probably due to one HantaVirus lung syndromea rare infectious disease transmitted mainly by rodents. At first it was thought that Arakawa had died on February 11, but it is believed to have died now the next day, after contacting a private medical service. It was found on the bathroom floor, next to a counter on which drugs were scattered, near the couple’s dog, Zinna, found dead in a cage in the closet.
Gene Hackman, 95, died on February 18, about a week after his wife, according to the data collected by his pacemaker. The autopsy highlighted serious heart disease, signs of previous heart attacks and several surgical operations. It was also indicated that Advanced Alzheimer has contributed to his death. He was found in the entrance area of the house, near the kitchen and his stick. Hackman was negative at Hantavirus.
The environmental inspection was conducted to ensure the safety of investigators, rescuers and family members who entered the house after the discovery. Erin PhippsState Veterinary of New Mexico, reported that the risk of exposure in the main residence was low. He also recalled that the cases of Hantavirus are rare, but lethal in 41% of cases in the state. Between 2022 and 2024, New Mexico recorded 17 confirmed cases.
Hackman was a prolific actor, winner of two Oscar prizes, for The violent arm of the law (1971) e The ruthless (1992). He married Arakawa in 1991 and retired from acting in 2004. The two lived permanently in their estate in Santa Fe, in New Mexico.
