Gen Z spends more on games than other categories

A survey made by the finance app NG.CASH and exclusively obtained by Popverso CNN showed that about 48% of the expenses of members of Generation Z who are between 12 and 18 years old in Brazil are with the universe of games.

The younger crowd invests not only in new games, but in purchases of items for internal use in games like Roblox and Fortnite, for example. The survey data were collected according to the activity of this audience in the app, which has 1 million users, with 80% of them between 12 and 18 years old.

The other categories in which Gen Z spends the most money are: retail (21.2%), delivery (11.7%), transportation (8.5%), streaming (6.1%), live platforms (2 %) and music (1.1%).

The survey also mapped which are the favorite brands of 12 to 18 year olds in these categories.

In the gaming universe, where they spend more money, the preferred brands – according to the purchases made by them – are Playstation and Steam. In retail, younger people prefer to buy on sites like Amazon and Mercado Livre.

In the Popverse CNN, Mari Palma spoke with Leo Amaral and Fernando Nakagawa about the results of the study and the importance of financial education for young people.
