Gaza in the International Court of Justice: The charges of anthropogenic famine and genocide

The International Court of Justice in The Hague begins today a week of listening to Israel’s humanitarian obligations to the Palestinians, more than 50 days after the Israeli army imposed a complete blockade on the Gaza Strip banning humanitarian aid. Representatives of various countries in the UN will present their positions for five days, starting today at 10:00 (local time, 11:00 am Greece) with the Palestinian representative. Another 38 countries – among them the US, China, France, Russia and Saudi Arabia – as well as the Islamic Cooperation Organization, the Arab League and the African Union will present their positions. In December, the UN General Assembly had adopted a large majority decision, which had been filed by Norway, which was calling for the International Court of Justice to issue an opinion on Israel’s humanitarian obligations to the Palestinians.
