G. Papandreou: If N. Androulakis is elected, ‘Mitsotakis will have a party’

George Papandreou launched a new attack against Nikos Androulakis in view of the second round of the internal party elections in the Movement for Change. Speaking on ERT’s morning show “From 6”, the former prime minister insisted that there is a problem with the representation of the Movement for Change and specifically with who will oppose Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitotakis and the leader of the official opposition, Alexis Tsipras.

“I will agree with Mr. Loverdos. By electing Mr. Androulakis, he will not put him in Parliament. We will have a vacancy in Parliament. Mitsotakis will have a party. It is an essential issue. No battles will be fought. It is a minus that he will not “It is in Parliament. It is one of the issues raised by Andreas Loverdos”, said George Papandreou.

He stressed that “he is not the man who can promote the party” while claiming that he is an experienced politician and can grow the party. “People know who George Papandreou is. What he has done,” he said.

“Citizens are free to decide what they want. They are not manipulative. They are not a herd,” he later commented, when asked about Andreas Loverdos’ support for Nikos Androulakis.

Regarding the issue of renewal, he stated that it is an attitude of life and ideas. “My ideas have always been refreshing. I have brought in new people,” he said.

He also considered it a big mistake to discuss collaborations with either one or the other. “It is not how we will share the chairs and the ministries. The issue is who will share the popular forces. To change the political scene,” said the former prime minister.

“I could not see the soul of PASOK being lost in a customer logic. I wanted to save the soul of the party. Fofi Gennimata played a role in reuniting”, he answered when asked about the criticism he receives because he left PASOK founding KIDISO .

In view of the second round, Mr. Papandreou noted that he spoke with most of the candidates, explaining how he did not ask for support but how the discussion was about how the country will move forward.

The former prime minister and candidate for the leadership in KINAL responded to those who asked him to resign and not go to the second round. “This violates the democratic process. I have heard many times when I have conflicts of interest that I have to resign. I am not comfortable,” he said.

George Papandreou insisted on the accusations against his fellow candidate for “sharing the chairs with Andreas Papamimikos”, as he said.

He appeared positive in the debate, saying that in the previous one there was no substantive discussion. “We have to say what faction we want,” he stressed.
