the president of Federal Court of Justice (STF), minister Luiz Fux meets this Tuesday (21), in the morning, with the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), and other senators to discuss the relationship between the two Powers.

In addition to Pacheco, senators Weverton Rocha (PDT-MA), Izalci Lucas (PSDB-DF), Nelsinho Trad (PSD-MS), Nilda Gondim (MDB-PB), Mailza Gomes (PP-AC) should also participate in the meeting. , Eduardo Gomes (PL-TO), Paulo Rocha (PT-PA), Álvaro Dias (Podemos-PR), Marcelo Castro (MDB-PI), Lucas Barreto (PSD-AP), Eliane Nogueira (PP-PI), Simone Tebet (MDB-MS) and Mecias de Jesus (Republicans-RR).

This Tuesday’s breakfast will have the objective of debating the relationship between the Legislative and the Judiciary. Last week, a Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) came to light, the objective of which would be to enable Congress to review judicial decisions taken by the STF.

Despite the PEC being gestated in the Chamber, the proposal provoked reactions. Judges and entities linked to the Judiciary spoke out against the proposal. Congressmen also criticized the text and declared it to be unconstitutional.

The last meeting between Fux and Pacheco was in May of this year. On the occasion, the objective of the meeting was also to discuss the “harmony between the Powers”.

The meeting took place after demonstrations on May 1, when supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro attacked the STF and court ministers.

At the time, Fux and Pacheco released a joint note after the meeting and said that “institutions act in favor of democracy”.

The two also said, in a note, that the “commitment of both to harmony between the powers, with due respect for constitutional rules, was discussed at the meeting. And they stressed that the institutions will continue to act in favor of non-negotiable democracy and the health of the electoral process.”
