Authorities seized 32 tons of rice after proving that a supermarket chain in Araraquara, in the interior of São Paulo, sold foods with differences between the product and the traded packaging. The information was released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, this Friday (18).
According to the agency, 4,595 5kg rice packages were seized, thin long class, type 1. The seizure totaled 22,975kg. The food was packed by a company from Uberlândia (MG). Already from beans, were collected 9,200 packets of 1kg, packed by a company of BRodowski, interior of São Paulo.
In both cases, the irregularity was in type disparity, as lower quality products were sold in type 1 packaging, which has higher quality.
Understand the criteria
Regarding rice lots, they had between 23% and 32% of broken or fragmented grains in pequanas parts. The results qualify the product as type 2. Seconds to legislation, so that rice is classified as type 1 it is necessary to have only 7.5% of grains in the situation mentioned above. The seized product was four times above the limit allowed by law.
In one of the seized bean lots, the food was classified as type 3, as it had a percentage of 3% of mold, burned and germinated. The legal limit to be framed as type 1 is 1.5%. The other lot was classified by the map as type 2 by presenting the percentage of 5% in crumpled, damaged, party and immature grains. The law provides a limit of 2.5% for type 1.
The companies involved in the case did not have the names released by the agency. Companies’ irregularities will be determined in tax administrative proceedings and they may require expert analysis.
