Franco da Rocha City Hall (SP) announces recovery plan after floods

After suffering from floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in January this year, which left 18 dead in the city, Franco da Rocha announced, this Wednesday (9), an investment plan and recovery of the municipality.

In total, R$ 30 million will be invested, according to the city hall. This amount includes a transfer of R$ 10 million from the state government, with the remaining amount coming from municipal management.

The plan includes rebuilding infrastructure and helping families affected by the rains. Those who are displaced due to the risk of landslides or landslides will receive a housing allowance of R$ 608.94 for six months, a period that can be extended for another six months.

According to the city hall, 230 families are already approved for the benefit, and 150 of them will receive the first installment by Monday (14).

About 3,500 families in the city must receive emergency financial aid for three months, which can be renewed for another three, until reaching the amount of R$ 500.

In addition, those affected by the floods will also be entitled to an exemption of up to R$ 5 thousand in the IPTU.

As for the reconstruction of the city, the city government announced the “Reconstrói Franco” program, which will focus on filling up holes, pruning trees, cleaning, clearing rivers and streams, cata-treco, reconstruction of galleries and landscaping. This program will be supported by the state government, with an investment of R$ 2 million through the State Civil Defense.

According to the municipal management, the other R$ 8 million transferred by the state government will be used in containment works on São Carlos Street, in Parque Paulista.

Storms in São Paulo state in late January left at least 5,277 families homeless or displaced because of the storms, according to the Civil Defense. In all, 39 municipalities were affected. The 34 deaths were recorded in the following municipalities:
