France: 82% in favor of holding a referendum on euthanasia

A very large majority of French would be in favor of holding a referendum on euthanasia. In any case, this is an impressive result of the poll requested by the Union Centriste group in the Senate and conducted by Ifop on “The French and the conduct of elections in France.”

Overall, all political parties are in favor, even if among those polled, voters close to En Marche (the party of incumbent Emanuel Macron) are the ones most in favor of this referendum, up to 90 %.

A bill was tabled in early April, but failed due to the many amendments tabled.

Some 300 lawmakers from across the political spectrum called on Prime Minister Jean-Castex in early May to include the “Freedom to the End” bill on the agenda.
