Four-time Oscar-nominated actress says she would like to make “more commercial” films

The Irish actress Saoirse Ronan 30, a four-time Oscar nominee (“Atonement,” “Brooklyn,” “Lady Bird” and “Little Women”), said she has made a lot of indie films and would like to participate in more commercial productions.

“I don’t know if it sounds superficial, but I would love to do more commercial things, because I’ve done a lot of them [filmes] indies, and I love doing them, but it was amazing to do something like ‘Blitz’, where I didn’t have to worry about time or money . The main thing is that you know the film will be seen,” he told Vanity Fair.

She compared the title to “The Outrun” which was independently funded and later sold to Sony Pictures: “Before we sold it, we didn’t know. We put a lot of effort into it and we didn’t know if anyone would actually watch it afterwards.”

“Blitz” is the new movie of Steve McQueen (“Shame” and “12 Years a Slave”) produced and distributed by Apple, starring Ronan. The plot follows a boy who sets out on an adventure in London during World War II while his mother tirelessly searches for her son. The historical drama premieres on AppleTV+ on November 22.

The Irish actress gained fame at a young age when she starred in “Desire and Reparation” (2007), the film that earned her her first Oscar nomination. In the past decade, she was one of the biggest names in cinema, with three nominations for Hollywood’s top awards, and titles such as “Brooklyn” (2015), “Lady Bird: Time to Fly” (2017), “Two Queens” (2018) and “Little Women” (2019) in the curriculum.
