Four people, including a police officer, were injured in a knife attack in Sydney on Sunday (25) that followed a car crash, police said.
A man who tried to flee the scene was arrested, police said. There is no ongoing threat to people in the Australian city, New South Wales Police Minister Yasmin Catley said.
According to police, there were no fatalities in the attack, which followed an incident “related to a domestic dispute” following a vehicle collision in the southern suburb of Engadine.
The offender “was armed with what we believe was a box-cutting knife,” Police Superintendent Donald Faulds told reporters.
Sydney, a city of 5 million people, has seen a spike in knife attacks this year, prompting New South Wales police to tighten gun laws.
The state parliament passed laws in June that provided metal scanners for police to check people at shopping malls, sports arenas and public transport stations.
In April, six people were killed and 12 injured in a knife attack at a shopping centre in Sydney’s Bondi area.
