Michael Bloomberg, billionaire businessman and former mayor of New York, is supporting Kamala Harris’s candidacy for President. At the same time, he criticizes former president Donald Trump in an opinion article published this Thursday (1st).
“I don’t agree with Vice President Kamala Harris in every way, but earlier this week, I voted for her without hesitation,” Bloomberg wrote in an op-ed posted on his media company’s website.
“In reflecting on the candidates in this presidential election, I have been guided by two main considerations: political positions and personal integrity. When it comes to politics, the contrast couldn’t be clearer,” Bloomberg said, mentioning several campaign policies.
He criticized Trump’s personal integrity, writing: “The despicable way he talks about immigrants – echoing phrases that Nazis used – is as shameful as it is dangerous. The shameful way he has treated white supremacists – remember his defense of them after they marched by torchlight in Charlottesville, Virginia – is despicable.”
He continued: “And the absurd lie he tells about the United States – that our country will end unless we elect it – reveals his ignorance about the true source of our strength as a nation, which lies in our values and principles and the protection of our rights under the Constitution.”
“I don’t know her well — we’ve only spoken a few times — but I was impressed with the way she ran her campaign: reaching out to independents and Republicans and bringing together voters of all parties by offering a positive vision of the country,” he said.
THE CNN previously reported that Bloomberg donated $50 million to entities supporting Kamala Harris, according to a person familiar with the matter.
Bloomberg ran but was unsuccessful for the Democratic nomination for the White House in 2020.
