Former federal deputy and former secretary of Rio Grande do Sul Nelson Proença, affiliated with Citizenship, died this Saturday morning, aged 71.
In a note, the party’s state directory reported that Proença had been hospitalized for three months at Hospital Albert Einstein, in São Paulo, due to complications resulting from an infection by Covid-19.
The former parliamentarian was married and had three children. Born in Porto Alegre, he was a federal deputy for five terms, between 1991 and 2011, and also served in the Undersecretary of Community Affairs of the Presidency of the Republic of the José Sarney government, between 1986 and 1990.
In addition, he was Extraordinary Secretary for Civil Affairs Affairs, Secretary General and Secretary of Development and International Affairs of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, between 1995 and 1998, during the administration of former governor Antônio Brito (MDB).
On social media, the national president of Cidadania, Roberto Freire, regretted what had happened. “@23cidadania deeply regrets the death of an illustrious and excellent parliamentarian from the former PPS, Nelson Proença. Furthermore, we have lost a great human being who, at the end of his life, faced with an enormous desire to live delicate moments. Special hug to Luiza, family and friends,” he wrote.
The wake and ceremony will be held today, in the municipality of Itapecerica da Serra, in São Paulo.
