Former CEO of Americanas is arrested in Spain

The former CEO of Americanas Miguel Gutierrez was arrested in Madrid, Spain, this Friday morning (28). His name was included in the Interpol Red Diffusion, the international wanted list, since yesterday (27), when he was subject to a preventive arrest warrant in a Federal Police operation, but was not located.

Miguel Gutierrez is identified as a member of one of the biggest frauds in the history of the Brazilian financial market. The amounts involved are around R$25.3 billion. This Thursday’s operation (27) was monitored by the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM).

The crimes investigated include market manipulation, use of privileged information, criminal association and money laundering. If convicted, the former executives of the retailer could face up to 26 years in prison.

In addition to the executive, the Federal Court also issued an arrest warrant against the company’s former director, Anna Christina Ramos Saicali. She is still considered a fugitive and is believed to be in Portugal. The executive’s name was also included yesterday on the Interpol list.

The current board of directors of Americanas contributed to the investigations conducted by the PF.

A CNN awaits a positioning from Gutierrez’s defense.

In a statement, Americanas informs that it trusts the authorities investigating the case and considers itself a victim of the financial fraud carried out by the former board of directors.

“Americanas believes in justice and awaits the conclusion of the investigations to hold all those involved legally accountable,” the statement concluded.
