Former Barcelona player says Vitor Roque needs to regain confidence, but warns

Former Barcelona player and idol of Cruzeiro and River Plate, Argentine Juan Pablo Sorín knows exactly the level of demand that a player has when he wears the shirt of a big club.

In a virtual event with journalists from all over the world on the eve of the start of another LALIGA season, the former left-back, who in addition to defending Barça (he played for six months in 2003) had a successful spell at Villarreal, spoke about Vitor Roque’s gift.

Without much space last season, the striker is expected to leave Barça in the transfer window, according to the Spanish press. According to the newspaper Markthe athlete’s agent would have already been informed of the board’s desire to negotiate the player.

“The most important thing for Vitor Roque at the moment is to regain confidence in his football. He is a striker who can be lethal, a mobile number 9, capable of defining the way big teams need him to. But to do that, he needs to be in an environment of trust, and the coach can give that trust,” said Sorín, at the virtual event promoted by LALIGA.

“At the same time, he needs to have the wisdom to realize in these first few jobs with Hansi Flick whether or not he will have a place in the team,” he warned.

In the Joan Gamper Trophy, a friendly tournament that marks the start of the season for Barça, Vitor Roque was not included in the list of players involved and watched the Catalans’ 3-0 defeat to Monaco from the stands.

Despite speculation that the striker is out of the club, Sorín is hopeful of seeing the Brazilian succeed at Barcelona.

“He has a tremendous future, but Barcelona is a team that cannot wait. Let’s see if these universes conspire so that he has space, has confidence and scores the goals that he needs and that Barcelona needs too.”
