Food Agency: A new 10% increase in food import costs is coming

Sounds the alarm, o Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) due to the increase in prices of agricultural products, throughout the world. The global ones expenses for the import of food products is expected to reach 1,940 billion dollars in 2022, i.e. it will increase by 10% compared to last year, due to the increase in prices, warns the Organization. Along with the increase in spending on products nutrition, global spending on import agricultural production factors, mainly fertilizers, are expected to increase by 48% compared to 2021according to its Food and Drug Administration UN, who is worried about the dramatic consequences this launch will mean for the vulnerable countries, which are already living under conditions food insecurity.

The Organization, which predicts that the negative consequences for global agricultural production and food security will last until 2023, has been insisting for months on the establishment of a mechanism that will facilitate the financing of countries with a high dependence on imports, reports the Athens Agency News.

The report hails the announcement by the International Monetary Fund at the end of September of the window opening as “an important and positive step in easing the burden of food import costs” “food shocks” for one year for low-income countries, which gives rapid access to emergency financing in case of sudden price increases.
