Flordelis: Trial enters the 5th day with testimonies on defendants and victim profiles

The trial of former federal deputy Flordelis and four other defendants entered the 5th day of depositions this Friday (11). By early afternoon, of the seven witnesses for the defense that still remain to be heard, two had spoken in plenary. Since Monday (7), about 20 witnesses have testified.

The first to be heard this Friday was the psychologist Sidnei Filho. For just over two hours, the professional answered questions asked by the defense about the characteristics of those who commit and who suffer domestic violence.

“The consequences of violence for children can be immediate or delayed. It takes years for us to notice violent behavior in children”, evaluated Sidnei.

The thesis raised by Flordelis’ lawyers is that the former deputy and some of the couple’s children were victims of domestic violence committed by Anderson do Carmo.

The second witness to speak was forensic psychiatrist Hewdy Lobo, who drew an intellectual profile of the defendants. According to him, Flordelis has features of depression, which may or may not be a result of domestic violence.

“She has a severe depressive disorder with mental illness, and this disorder causes pain and suffering,” he said.

On Thursday (10), Judge Nearis dos Santos denied the request of the former deputy’s defense to exhume the body of Pastor Anderson do Carmo. The intention was to know if there are traces of toxic substances that corroborate the reports of some witnesses that he would have been poisoned.

After the testimony of the witnesses, the jury will begin to hear Flordelis and the other defendants. Only after this stage does the trial proceed to the final considerations and the sentence.

In addition to the former federal deputy, her biological daughter, Simone dos Santos, her granddaughter Rayane dos Santos and her affectionate children André Luiz and Marzy Teixeira are on trial.

Flordelis is accused of being the mastermind of the murder and is liable for triple qualified homicide – for clumsy reasons, use of cruel means and a resource that made it impossible to defend the victim -, attempted murder, use of false documents and armed criminal association.

Pastor Anderson do Carmo had been married to Flordelis for 25 years. He was shot to death on June 16, 2019, in the garage of the house where he lived with his family in Pendotiba, in the city of Niterói, Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro.

Flordelis denies participation and the defense of the former deputy believes in the acquittal.
