At least nine people died as a result of storms in southern Thailand, the country’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department reported this Saturday (30).
Across the country, around 550,000 families were affected by the floods, which began four days ago. More than 13,000 people had to leave their homes and take to 200 temporary shelters in southern provinces, according to the department.
Rescue teams worked to deliver food and supplies. A baby was even removed through the roof by rescuers.
“The water arrived very quickly at around 4:30 in the morning, and we were unable to remove our belongings in time. Damage includes the computer and the table that we were unable to lift to a higher place. What we managed to save, we saved, but the rest we had to let the flood take. When the water receded, we saw that the table was ruined by the flood,” said Itthichai Keawrod, a printing shop owner.
Thailand’s Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy rain, flash floods and waves up to 3 meters high in nine southern provinces because of the monsoon season.

Another Asian country suffering from floods is Malaysia. At least three people died there and 90,000 people had to go to shelters.
