With the drop in the level of Lake Guaíba, the worst flood in Porto Alegre's history is receding in some parts of the city.
In the central region, the streets are still covered by water. However, with the decrease in the level, it is possible to see on the walls of the properties the mark of how far the flood reached.
On the shopping streets, store employees have already started cleaning work and are trying to account for the losses.
Since last week, the Guaíba level has shown a downward trend, with some small fluctuations. At 4pm this Monday (20), the level was at 4.25 meters. A week earlier, at the same time, it was 5.02 meters.
Despite the reduction, the level is still well above the flood level, which is 3 meters, and the warning level, which is 2.5 meters.
According to Porto Alegre city hall, the flood in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul affected 157,701 people and 39,422 buildings. This Monday, 26 own schools and 100 affiliated with the municipal education network resumed their activities in the municipality.
