With the level of the Guaíba above 5 meters, the city of Porto Alegre has been affected by the worst flood in its history. Several neighborhoods in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul were affected, especially in the north and south zones and in the historic center.
Given the seriousness of the situation, the city hall provided 21 reception points to receive people who had to leave their homes. By early Sunday morning (5), almost 4,000 people had already gone to temporary shelters.
Another problem is the lack of drinking water. According to the city hall, the Ilhas, Moinhos de Vento, São João and Tristeza water treatment plants were shut down due to flooding. There is no forecast for the resumption of operations. The Menino Deus and Belém Novo stations operate at reduced capacity. The municipal administration asks people to ration water.
