Airlines from Panama and Peru announced the cancellation of flights to and from Venezuela after the government of Nicolás Maduro cut ties with countries that questioned the Chavista’s alleged victory in Sunday’s (28) presidential election.
Through a statement, the Venezuelan government announced the expulsion of diplomatic personnel from Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay.

Panama
Panama’s civil aviation authority has been ordered to apply a “retaliatory measure” against Venezuela starting Wednesday night (31), a cabinet spokesman said, without giving further details.
The order comes after a plane leaving Panama carrying former regional presidents en route to observe Sunday’s elections in Venezuela was blocked.
Panamanian and Venezuelan authorities had said on Tuesday (30) that flights would be suspended. Venezuela also halted flights to the Dominican Republic, claiming that both governments were interfering in its national affairs.
Panamanian President José Raul Mulino called for a review of the election results.
Peru
The Venezuelan aeronautical authority has temporarily suspended flights to and from Peru from July 31 to August 31, Latam Airlines said in a statement.
The airline LTM.SN specified that its flights between Lima and Caracas will be interrupted during this period and apologized to its customers for the inconvenience caused by the suspension.
