Residents of the city of Pilar (PB), about 60 kilometers from João Pessoa, sought health facilities with symptoms of food poisoning between Tuesday (15) and Thursday (16).
Some of the patients reported having consumed fish distributed free of charge by City Hall during a social action in celebration of Holy Week, a common practice in several cities in the Northeast.
In all, seven tons of fish were distributed. According to reports, part of the residents realized that the fish would be inappropriate for consumption at the time of preparation and ruled out the food.
As a precautionary measure, the City Hall of Pillar guided the population not to consume the fish received until the results of the analyzes performed in samples collected.
Sanitary Surveillance teams of the municipality are on the streets guiding residents and working to identify the origin of the possible problem. The Municipal Secretariat of Health began an investigation to investigate the situation.
