On the third day in a row, the Fire Department searches for environmentalist Adolfo Souza Duarte, who disappeared after falling from a boat at the Billings dam, in the south of São Paulo.
“The garrisons are still in service,” said the corporation.
According to information from the Fire Department, the accident occurred at 20:14 on Monday (1). The vessel was returning from a tour when it crashed and ended up drowning. The corporation explains that the possibility of finding the environmentalist alive is small.
An incident report was opened about the disappearance. “The case is being investigated through a police inquiry initiated by the 101st Police District,” the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat said in a statement.
According to delegate Marcos Gomes de Moura, from the 101st DP, at the moment the hypothesis of crime was ruled out.
“Everything leads to the belief that it was an accident. We’ve opened an investigation into manslaughter, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be that at the end of the investigation. I can’t say much because I need the autopsy report after they find the body,” he told the report.
The delegate explained that Ferrugem received R$50 to go on a tour with two couples. “There was a little party on the boat, people drank beer and he even let people drive. And at such a moment, he was dancing on the back of the boat and someone else was driving. That’s when there was a bump, he and another woman fell,” he says.
According to the delegate, after falling, Ferrugem still helped the girl to get on the boat. But before she got on the boat she ended up disappearing. She may have been hit by the boat’s propeller or even sunk. Therefore, the autopsy report will be important for the investigation.
“He didn’t have a life jacket, but he had a life jacket on the boat. And he fell when he let the guys drive. We’ve already spoken to those involved, everyone is collaborating, they presented their cell phones and we sent them for expertise. He is known in the region because he does social work and has no enemies”, continues the delegate, who believes that the body will soon be found.
Adolfo, 41 years old, known as Ferrugem, is president of the NGO Meninos da Billings, which works to preserve the region of the dam with a focus on environmental education of the spring. Since his disappearance, searches have been carried out, but so far no sign of him has been found. The work is being done at the height of Avenida Dona Belmira Marin, close to the first ferry.
