The American actor Jonathan Majors 34, revealed that he is heartbroken after the news that Doctor Doom will be the new villain in the next films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He spoke in a video recorded by the TMZ team.
“Yes, heartbroken. Of course. I love Kang. But Doctor Doom is evil,” he replied when asked if he was hurt by the new direction Marvel was taking.
Initially, Khang, the character Majors played in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” (2023), would be the main villain of phase five of the MCU. However, after the actor had problems with the law, he was dismissed by Marvel, which chose to go in another direction in the films.
In December 2023, the studio announced the actor’s dismissal after he was found guilty of harassment and assault charges against his ex-girlfriend.
At San Diego Comic-Con, which took place the last weekend of July, Robert Downey Jr. was announced as Doctor Doom, who will be the main antagonist of the two new Avengers films.
In the video, TMZ talks about the chance the Iron Man actor had to lead the Marvel movies despite his legal troubles. In 1996, Downey Jr. was arrested for possession of heroin. A few years later, in 2008, he starred for the first time as Tony Stark.
“I think it is only fair that Mr. Downey is being and has been received with patience, curiosity and love… and [ele] is being authorized to work [sua] art and being creative at that level,” Marjors commented.
Furthermore, the actor stated that he would be interested in returning to play Khang when asked about it: “Of course! Of course! I love him. I love Kang. If that’s what the fans want, and that’s what Marvel wants, then let’s go. Of course.”
