At least 29 people died in a fire that broke out during daytime repair work at a nightclub in Istanbul, Turkey, state media reported on Tuesday.
In addition, there are people seriously injured, the Istanbul governor's office said.
The governor's office says the fire started in the Besiktas district of central Istanbul, on the European side of the city.
The fire broke out during renovations at the site, which is located underground, says Anadolu, the Turkish state news agency.
An investigation is underway, says the country's interior minister on X, formerly Twitter.
Arrest warrants were issued for five people, including three people who managed the nightclub and one responsible for renovation, Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc wrote in X.
“Scene inspection and evidence collection efforts are ongoing, and a team of three specialists specializing in occupational and fire safety are also continuing their work to determine the cause of the fire,” he said.
