A large fire burned more than 100 homes in the Caminho São José community, in the Rádio Clube neighborhood, in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo. The flames started around 22:30 on the night of this Monday (4). The Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) was triggered to assist people who needed help, but there are no records of deaths.
According to the Fire Department, 15 vehicles from the corporation were directed to the site and the military also had the support of the Municipal Civil Guard, Samu and Civil Defense of Santos. The fire was brought under control after four hours and the professionals continued in the community for the aftermath phase.

In a note, Santos City Hall reported that there were no records of deaths. “Three Samu units provided assistance to people who needed assistance, mainly due to smoke inhalation. Patients who needed more care were taken to the Emergency Care Units (UPAs) in the Northwest and East Zones,” the statement said.
A CNN questioned the City Hall about the state of health and number of victims, but did not receive a response until the publication of this report.
The Civil Defense of the state stated that, so far, about ten people are homeless, and have been sent to the Santos City Hall shelter.
“At this difficult time, I offer my solidarity to the families. The City Hall will not measure efforts to provide the necessary aid. We are preparing the UME Pedro Crescenti, at Rádio Clube, to serve homeless families”, said Mayor Rogério Santos (PTB).
To assist homeless families, the City Hall organized an emergency shelter at the Centro Esportivo e Recreativo da Zona Noroeste (Rua Fausto Felício Brusarosco, s/nº, in Castelo).
Donations of clothing, water and hygiene items will be collected at the Pedro Crescente municipal school (Av. Brigadeiro Fa Lima, s/nº, at Rádio Clube) and donations of water bottles, clothes, diapers and personal hygiene items for homeless families will be collected at the Solidarity Social Fund (Av. Conselheiro Nébias, 388, in the Encruzilhada neighborhood).
