Government says strike is “illegal and abusive”

The government of São Paulo stated, last Monday (2), that the strike by Metrô, CPTM and Sabesp is “illegal and abusive”.

“It is absolutely unjustifiable that a constitutional instrument for the defense of workers is hijacked by unions for political and ideological attacks on the current management,” said the Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) management in a statement.

According to the statement, the strike was not called to demand salary or labor issues, “but, rather, for the unions to act, in a totally irresponsible and undemocratic way, to oppose a government agenda that was defended and legitimately supported at the polls.” ”.

Unions reaffirm right to strike

The strike of the categories takes place to protest against the concessions, outsourcing and privatizations that were proposed by the state government.

The Metro Workers Union claims that the right to strike is constitutional.

“It is up to workers to define the interests relevant to their categories. Transport and water workers provide public services and we want these services to remain public and of quality”, he mentions.

The Railway Workers Union explains that “workers are putting an end to this pernicious process that is the privatization of public metro rail transport in São Paulo! Enough is enough: the population is suffering from the drop in the quality of services provided on the lines granted”.
