Confusion broke out in Taiwan's Parliament in the early hours of Friday (17), after proposed reforms in the Chamber triggered conflicts between lawmakers.
Lawmakers were caught stealing documents and climbing over each other, leaving the Parliament Chamber in chaos.
See the moment of confusion:
Puma Shen, a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lawmaker, had to be rushed to hospital after he was injured in the head while trying to enter the House.
As no party currently has a majority in Parliament, the opposition wants to give the Chamber greater powers of scrutiny over the government, including a controversial proposal to criminalize statements that are considered false in the legislative house.
The DPP claims that the opposition parties KMT and TPP are unduly trying to force approval of the proposals without the usual consultation process, in what they called an “unconstitutional abuse of power”.
The confusion comes just days before the inauguration of president-elect Lai Ching-te, on May 20.
